Charles Barkley, one of the most popular sports figures in Phoenix history, has been elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame, sources told The Arizona Republic on Saturday. Barkley was elected in his first year of eligibility. The official announcement is scheduled for Monday. Barkley was not immediately available for comment.
Barkley was the NBA's MVP in 1993 when he led the Suns to the NBA Finals before they lost to Chicago in six games. He averaged 23.4 points and 11.5 rebounds and was named one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history.
