In 1988, Congress declared October to be "National Disability Employment Awareness Month." National Disability Employment Awareness Month recognizes the talents, skills, and dedication of people with disabilities who are a vital part of our workforce.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which has opened doors for countless Americans by removing barriers to employment. Much work remains to be done, however. The current national unemployment rate for people with disabilities exceeds two-thirds. America's 55 million people with disabilities are a tremendous untapped resource.
