The United Nationsnuclear watchdog on September 24, 2004 called on North Korea to give up any nuclear weapons it may have and allow U.N. inspectors to return to verify that the country's atomic program is peaceful. The International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) General Conference, an annual meeting of all 137 IAEA members, unanimously adopted a resolution that urged Pyongyang 'to completely dismantle any nuclear weapons program in a prompt, transparent, verifiable and irreversible manner.'
